How to send encrypted emails?

Before the tutorial, I will complain about the weather

DAMN! What about the blog I publish yesterday? It's just like we made the congratulation message for Barack Obama's winning but Hilary Clinton wins instead. Now I am freezing. Where should I put that blog now?

It is a big probability that NSA has one copy of your email by now. (oops… did I mention NSA…….?, they probably gonna get this blog, but anyways, it's public, hahaha)

Now the tutorial begins:

  1. You need an email client, e.g. Microsoft Outlook (you need Microsoft Office Outlook Connector to access your Windows Live Hotmail), Mozilla Thunderbird, etc. I don't know about Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail Desktop, haven't tried yet.
  2. (Needless to say) configure your email client to be able to receive and send emails from your mail-box. (Different mail services have different configurations. Look at their help page about how. If you are a Windows Live Hotmail user, the only way is Microsoft Outlook with Outlook Connector or Windows Live Mail (the desktop client).
  3. Go to http://www.thawte.com/; select "Secure Your E-mail" (You should be at http://www.thawte.com/secure-email/personal-email-certificates/index.html?click=DoYouNeedTo-SecureMail now)
  4. If it's your first time use, select "Join" at the right hand side of the page; proceed with the registration with your own information. Then you have an account to log in
  5. Login your account with your username (usually the email address you use to register) and the password
  6. Add additional email address if you have any by select "my emails" -> "new email address", of course you need to click the link on all of your confirmation emails.

Step 7 - 19 MUST be completed on an XP machine (I have tried Vista, doesn't work; untested on LINUX or Mac). If you don't have an XP operating system, download Microsoft Virtual PC 2007(free), or VMware, and install an XP on it. (Sorry I don't provide installation instruction or links to download for Windows XP) Login to your account with the internet browser you have on your virtual machine

  1. Select "certificates" -> "request a new certificate"
  2. Click "request" to pop-up a new window
  3. Select the browser you are using, click "request"
  4. Click "next" for your employment information
  5. Select only one email address you want a certificate. You can come back later for a certificate for a different address. Click "next"
  6. Click "next"
  7. You can either select "accept" for the default extensions, or "configure" for advanced configurations. If you selected "accept", go to step 15.
  8. Select "Digital Signature", "Non-Repudiation", "Key-Encipherment", "Data-Encipherment", and both of "S/MIME" and "SSL CLient Authentication" for netscape certificate type. Click "accept"
  9. Make sure you select a good algorithm and click "next"
  10. After your private key is generated, verify the certificate configuration and click "finish"
  11. Wait for a few minutes for the certificate to be issued
  12. When the certificate appears to be "issued" on view certificate status, click "MSIE" if you used IE or "Navigator" if you used Firefox or Netscape.
  13. Click "fetch" to download your certificate in a file of .pfx (under windows XP)

  14. After you have saved it into a file, you can import it from your email client.
  15. You are good to sign your email with your own key and encrypt your email if you have your contact's public key.

Hopefully, you can sign and/or encrypt your message now. ^.^

March 04

The March Rain

The rain of March is falling silently

I stand on the sidewalk

Watching each headlight passes through your mirage

Reminding the tenderness retained by your words

Soothing and gentle

Killing my last bit fever of vanity

You renewed my life

Revealing the path beyond your nebulous shape

Yet, you are leaving soon

Leaving me to the hands of spring

Whispering your prayer to my ears

Wishes my joyful guesting with other companions

It is you I will miss

And recount in every of my dreams

As another three hundred and sixty-five days and nights

You will come again

And attend me with your heart

Granting me a new beginning of time

Winter Break 07/08

Long time no post with this blog.... I must have been forgetting it on a regular bases.

Awkward: Henry and Jack talked about dota ONLY during the entire dinner session..... I'm grateful Hao is in USA and not with us...

Of food got tired: Korean BBQ and Sushi Buffet.... need to go somewhere else next time......such as Lasagna

Surprise: When I met Peng Shi the day we went to play Laser Tag, first thing he asked me was to join xiaonei.com

Bad: Went to City Hall to watch the countdown. Snow/rain started around 11:30pm and the square was full of ppl, literally can't move. When I was using the cellphone to record the fireworks, the Windows Mobile 6 on my phone crashed => I have to reset it => I reseted it => Lost all the contacts => Next time need to synchronize more with my laptop's Outlook...

Worse: My co-op started on January 02, so I had to rush to waterloo on the New Year's Day. For the first week of my work, I just sat there with ABSOLUTELY nothing to do. Nahh.... I don't like co-op, so I decides have as few co-op terms as possible..... Hopefully next time a research position.

Worst: I hate grades..... got owned so much, have to study hard next term. And there's no rum to drink during my stay in Toronto.

Thank to:
Siyang: for the novel you give me
Henry, Peter, Jack: for going skating together
Vicky, Linda, and others: for going to Nathan Philip Square to countdown, though got lost with a lot of ppl in the middle.
And all the ppl who said happy new year to me, lol

This is interesting......

A very BT programming language, who'd want to write a C compiler using this language?

Artemis' Blood

Heard today is a red moon day, although I didn't see any redish on my balcony. No view of the eclipse for me then... I am wondering what is that bunny doing there. It's probably not that exciting being a god-like creature, assigned to do one certain job forever.
About full moon, I always can link it to 苏轼's 水调歌头-明月几时有, "人有悲欢离合,月有阴晴圆缺,此事古难全。" I quite like him, he was a genius in poetry, and his works were in a very romantic style with his own feelings expressed explicitly in them. He had some superstition that when the moon is full, the ones who are thinking about each other should gather for it, or the other way around. However, life has much more separation than meeting up. The moon is full, but who's heart is the same as the full moon, or still awaiting for another piece?
Suddenly want to say something invisible now, heh

that's about it.
For my heart.

Hell

I wrote a blog and my iexplorer crash, so i am tired of writing the same one, so i just wrote another one.
Today I heard some guy singing Dixie Chick's Not Ready to Make Nice, It's funny to hear a guy sing it, well, but he sang very well actually. Life continue to be boring filled up with routine and limits. But if we want to count the time that is not routine and only the good moments, we might live a short life just like Adam Stanler in Click. After all, life is short. If you count the time belongs to yourself, that's even 2^N shorter. To enjoy a unenjoyable life, that's hard...
